BAFTA: Prince Charming!

After checking out some of the British Academy Film Awards, I had to create this collage of screen shots from the moment of the night. Meryl Streep lost her shoe on her way up to receive her award from Colin Firth. Straight out of Cinderella, Colin ran over, picked up the shoe, got down on one knee, and placed Meryl's shoe back on her foot. He finished it off with a kiss.

How enchanting :)

NYFW Update

I love this "prim and proper" trend that we've been seeing for Fall '12. Feminine silhouettes of Chanel-like suits are carried down the runway with elegance. The 20's and 30's will be fully apparent for Fall '12 and we will once again be graced by the trend of "having class." It's nice to see this look for a change instead of the tired 'let me show every inch of my body.'

The above looks are from Malan Breton and Anna Sui.

I also quite enjoyed seeing looks from Nicholas K, which featured western inspired wear, incorporating key elements that included fringe, cowboy boots, and that turtle shell necklace which I love! I need to get my hands on that... *cough* Nicholas K *cough*

...in my dreams, perhaps.

Best Dressed from The Grammys 2012

Such beautiful gowns flowed onto the red carpet during this year's Grammy Awards. One prominent trend apparent was the sequined, sparkled floor length gown and we saw this look on stars like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and Katy Perry.

A Poem by Me

What’s funny about life is that it hits you from all directions
Like an earthquake on its crooked, destructive path
Once all stops shaking, you crawl out of hiding, brush the debris off, and get on with your life
And you think to yourself,
“I survived that? I can overcome anything! It can’t get any worse than this.”
HA!
That’s when the aftershock hits you even harder than the first quake
And the effects are more devastating
But that’s just nature for you

Fishtail Braid... sort of

Here's my first [successful] attempt on the fishtail braid. I've been trying to perfect this look and I feel creating this look with wet hair is a lot easier than dry hair.  Applying a sparse amount of mousee or gel to the hair will also give you that polished look, but, if you're like me and you don't mind several fly-aways, then ditch the products and try the look with dry hair

Sincerely, Alexa

I apologize my loves for not posting much lately. I've been uber busy, curating content for a new website, working at my 9 to 5, and trying to have some type of life! I haven't been able to post much but I promise, new outfits and inspirations will be posted ASAP... I did get a camera for Christmas :D

Spring 2012 Fashion Trends

Yes, I know even though winter has just begun, I long for the warm weather and the chance to expose my skin again for the spring season. Here are some of the trends I’ll be looking forward to:

60’s fashion
This trend started in the fall, but don’t think it’s dying out any time soon! Expect to see a 60’s takeover as micro mini skirts, bright color blocking, and flat masculine shoes will be flaunted strongly. Most of the looks will look like something right out of Twiggy’s closet.
We will also be seeing structured lace pieces, peter pan collars and hairstyles that require little to no fuss. Cat eye sunglasses and kitten heels will also turn over along with the warm weather.

20’s fashion
I am most excited for this trend. The 20’s marked the birth of a new woman, and new fashion! The flapper inspires most of these looks. Flapper dresses include dropped waistlines and knee length hemlines.

We will also see looks inspired by the late great Coco Chanel. Masculinity will dominate this trend as well as beading and fringing and flapper-type headbands.

Whatever decade you plan to rep, do so with style & class.

Layers Upon Layers

Again, let me apologize for my photos. I'm camera deprived and I'm hoping to get a great quality camera for Christmas, only one more month! I layered a black long sleeve shirt underneath an oversized white t-shirt and then, perfectly, I fit this lace wrap over that. I'm in love with this vintage lace wrap and I love that I found out how to wear it during the colder months. I wore it in the summer several times.
It's a great piece.

Grandpa Sweaters

This post is a tribute to my grandpa, Mario Chenet, who died October 23 of this year. I miss you so much! I dedicate this to you.

I love the feel of a chunky oversized sweater on a Fall day. This sweater was my grandfather's and it's by Izod. Now, I know what you're thinking...Why is she wearing men's clothes?...
...because I can, that's why. I'm pulling a Katie Holmes, here people! Relax!

Asymmetrical

I'm in love with this dress I purchased at Lord & Taylor. It was sitting in the dressing room and it was just my size. And it was only $13.50 marked down from $110! The flowing feel to this dress is perfect for any fall day. I paired this with my combat boots and leather vest.

Jeffrey ♥

So my birthday has come and gone :( but I have something that will always remind me of my 20th birthday... my first pair of JEFFREY CAMPBELLS! My mom bought these Zeke Platform black leather platform pumps for me and I am in love with them. I've never ever wanted to make love to a pair of shoes before, but for these I'd make an exception.
Ugh.. just looking at them makes my mouth water. And they are amazingly comfortable.. I wore them for 4 hours dancing all night and they didn't even hurt until I got home. Here's a better picture, since I'm still photographically deprived.

Newsprint Nails

Hello all! I know I've been very busy lately so I've neglected to post outfit pictures. But here's a little something I've been working on. I transferred some newsprint and some comic strips onto my nails. I love to play with nail art and you'll probably see a DIY video tutorial coming soon for on how to create this look.
Speaking of video tutorials, some of our video tutorials for PlumWillow are up, just in time for Halloween! Check them out here.

Ready for Combat

Perhaps the only thing I love about a rainy day is the ability to wear an oversized sweater. This is the second day in a row that I'm wearing my Steve Madden combat boots. They are so comfortable!
I love my Levi skinny ripped jeans with this because they just add to that slouchy, lazy feel I'm going for with this outfit.
I also wanted to talk about my Dogeared necklace that I bought from Bloomingdales a few months back. The quality of these pictures aren't that good because I'm in the process of buying a new camera, but this necklace is a gold arrow, pointing upwards. Representing the phrase "Stand Up to Cancer," this proceeds from purchasing this necklace go toward cancer research and cancer survivors. Being that my grandpa is suffering from esophageal cancer, I just had to splurge.
 Buy it here! CLICK.

stand up. stand up and join an unstoppable movement. wear this necklace as a reminder that we must rise together as one. wear it for your family, for your friends, and for everyone in the fight. this is where the end of cancer begins.

Leather & Printed Tights

I'm adoring the comfort and durability of these Steve Madden combat boots I purchased this past Columbus Day weekend. What great sales I found! We New Yorkers have been dealing with such strange weather, but what better excuse than to pull out shorts one last time. Layer a pair of patterned tights underneath and you're good to go!

Uhhh-Mazing!! Watch for yourselves.

Girl About Town

Today, I'm rocking my Girl About Town lipstick by Mac Cosmetics. I was never a huge fan of bright colored lips for myself, but this pink accentuated my skin tone so well, I just had to buy it!
I'm wearing my Vintage Havana grey knit sweater layered underneath this black vintage asymmetrical wrap. I will be posting a better picture of this wrap in a post sometime in the future.

I'm also wearing my white feather ear cuff handmade by Anni Jyrgenson. She finds inspiration from Native American culture, incorporating feather headdresses into the look of her ear cuffs. Such a great piece!

Bodies We Want

ESPN stripped down several athletes for their 2011 "Bodies We Want" issue. They did it in such a tasteful way and I was actually extremely inspired. Take a look at some of the photos.
